What is “Default Actuator Position”?

A question we get a lot from users is “What is Default Actuator Position?” and “Do I need to set this to Pool or Spa?” This option, seen in the device configuration of an actuator, can be confusing to understand. We want to help clear this up by providing some information in this article.

Default Actuator Position is an optional field available in the configuration of an actuator that offers you the ability to set how the actuator should behave when the body of water that it’s connected to is off and no pumps are running. It tells The Attendant which mode should be set when everything is off.

For example, you might have a pool/spa combo setup and maybe there is a risk of the spa draining because it’s higher and above the pool water line. You would set the Default Actuator Position for both the suction and return to be “Pool” so that the actuators block off the spa side so it doesn’t drain.
