At the beginning of each swimming season, you should take the time to inspect and clean your pH and ORP probes. The probes have a limited lifetime, and keeping them clean and free of debris will help to maximize the usable life of them.
Disconnect the wire connecting the probe to The Attendant by twisting the connector (under the rubber protective sheath) counter-clockwise and pulling it out.
Remove the probe from the plumbing.
Carefully clean the ORP electrode’s platinum or gold sensor plate and its mount using clean cotton swaps soaked in (minimum) 70% isopropyl alcohol. Ensure any debris is removed from the wet portions of the probe and that the plate is visually free of any dirt, deep scratches, or other damage.
Rinse the electrode well using distilled or deionized water before placing the sensor back into its normal operating environment.
Do not dry or let the electrode become dry during this procedure.
If the probe’s connector plug has inadvertently gotten wet during the cleaning process, take a clean, dry cotton swab and carefully wipe inside and around the BNC connector to remove excess moisture before attempting to reconnect the probe to The Attendant.
