Before you begin programming
Please note/record the following parameters values before starting programming. These are very important values that may already be configured for your pump and must be carried over into the Attendant configuration.
| Parameter | Value |
| 301 (Min Frequency) | Write down to configure min RPM |
| 302 (Max Frequency) | Write down to configure max RPM |
| 303 (Preset Frequency 1) | Write down to validate speed setting |
| 304 (Preset Frequency 2) | Write down to validate speed setting |
| 509 (Rated Motor Volts) | Write down to validate speed setting |
| 510 (Rated Motor Volts) | Write down to validate speed setting |
| 511 (Rated Motor Rpm) | Write down to configure max RPM |
Configuration
To control Vacon X5 VFD drives with The Attendant you must configure the VFD to enable communication using Modbus. Settings changes on the drive are performed using the two line display on the unit itself. The image below depicts the display and control buttons found on all Vacon X5 drives:

Entering Programming Mode
Hold down the SHIFT Key and press the PROG key to enter the Level 2 Programming mode. This mode provides access to all setting parameters.
Note: If you are missing certain parameter numbers when scrolling through the parameter list in programming mode one of the following may be an issue
1. Simply pressing the PROG key will take you into the Level 1 Programming mode that will not display all available parameters. Be sure to Hold down the SHIFT Key and press the PROG to enter LEVEL 2.
2. Some parameters are only accessible when the drive is in MACRO mode. To place the VFD into MACRO mode press and hold the PROG button for 3 seconds. You will see the screen read “Hold PROG for Macro Mode” confirming you are in macro mode.
Updating Parameter Values
| Button | Usage |
| Scroll to next parameter | |
| Scroll to previous parameter | |
| Edit the currently selected parameter value. Once you enter edit mode of a given parameter use keys to change the value | |
| Store selected parameter value |
Configuration for Modbus (SIO) Control
Enable Modbus (SIO) Configuration Parameters
In order to make Modbus configuration parameters visible in the parameter list you must turn on the SIO Visible setting. To do so, enter Level 2 Programming mode (see instructions above) and update the register below:
| Parameter | Value |
| 492 (SIO Visible) | Yes |
Configure Modbus (SIO) Communication
Please be sure to set the following parameters on the VFD to enable Modbus operation:
| Parameter | Value |
| 900 (SIO Protocol) | RTU N81 |
| 901 (SIO Baud Rate) | 19200 |
| 902 (Comm Drop #) aka Address | Set the Unique Bus Identifier (Address) 1-247 |
