Closing and Winterizing Your Pool

Chemistry probes are not designed to withstand freezing conditions. Probes must be removed and stored according to winterization procedures. Freeze damage will result in permanent probe failure and is not covered under warranty.

Closing your pool can feel overwhelming, but doing it right is the key to a stress-free start when swim season returns. At Poolside Tech, we’ve put together our best practices for properly ‘closing’ The Attendant to keep your poolside oasis protected year-round.

If you plan to power off all of the pool equipment that The Attendant controls:

If you plan to shut down your pool and spa for the season, and no longer need the pump or other equipment to run, you’ll want to fully power down The Attendant.

Steps in the Mobile App:

  1. Make sure your pool has been properly closed (water balanced, winterizing chemicals added, pump no longer needed).
  2. Open the Mobile App and tap the menu icon (☰).
  3. Select MaintenanceInstaller Mode.
  4. Tap the confirmation to enable Installer Mode.

Steps on The Attendant Itself:

  1. At the touchscreen, tap the Service icon.
  2. Select Installer Mode.
  3. Slide the confirmation bar from left to right.

This will safely shut down all pool equipment controlled by The Attendant until you’re ready to reopen in the spring.

While in Installer Mode, the actuators will remain powered so you may manually adjust them using the switch if needed.

Once your pool plumbing has been winterized, switch off the main power to all equipment, including The Attendant.

When powered down, the Poolside Attendant app will display the system as offline.

At this point, you’ve successfully completed The Attendant’s Winterization process. Your pool and spa are now protected and ready for the off-season.

If you plan to only winterize some of your pool equipment being controlled by The Attendant:

Once you have completed closing the parts you planned to (with the water balanced and winterizing chemicals added), turn off all pool controls in the app and place The Attendant into Installer Mode using the mobile app.

You must use the mobile app when winterizing individual bodies of water. This feature is not currently available on The Attendant’s local interface.

You can do this by going into the mobile app’s hamburger menu, selecting Maintenance, then Installer Mode and then sliding the confirmation bar left to right.

Once you have entered Installer Mode, select the body of water that has been winterized, scroll down, and toggle on the Winterized option.

After, you must confirm by sliding the bar from left to right.

Now, press the Save button (at the bottom of the next page displayed).

Repeat these steps for any other bodies of water that will be winterized.

Once you are finished updating each winterized body of water, press the Save button in the top right corner of the screen.

Exit Installer Mode by pressing the back arrow in the top left corner and then sliding the bar for confirmation.

Congratulations! All of the controls will now be inactive and hidden in the app!

IMPORTANT
Even though the actuators connected to winterized bodies of water will not be powered on, it is strongly recommended to physically disconnect them from The Attendant or toggling the switch to the middle or off position.

Please be sure to mark the correct actuator position with a marker or sticker to make next season’s opening a bit easier.

Don’t Forget About Your Chemistry Equipment

If your pool has built-in Chemistry management available, be sure to properly winterize chemical dispensing tanks, lines, and most importantly, the pH and ORP probes. These should be removed from the plumbing and stored indoors using the appropriate sensor storage solution (not water.)

Managing Your Lights and Light Groups

If you have closed and covered your pool and/or spa – and you have preset lighting schedules in the Poolside mobile app, you should consider removing them to ensure your lights are not activating while under the cover. If you’ve turned off the lights via the main power, there is no need to modify the lighting schedules.

If you have lights within a winterized body of water that you would like to keep active during the off-season, you can reconfigure them to show within the Landscape group so you can continue to operate the lights as you desire.
