Heaters and Chillers

Ports to connect to on The Attendant: BUS1 – BUS4
Ports to connect to on The Attendant Mini: BUS1 – BUS2

These devices should only be powered directly from the power center or breaker panel. Do not run electricity through a relay as The Attendant will control the device to turn on/off by using the communication cable.

The instructions below apply to Heat Pumps with a display that is pictured below:

The recommended connection mode for AquaCal heat pumps utilizes Serial RS-485 wiring. This connection enables The Attendant to switch between heating and cooling modes on heat pumps equipped with this capability.

  1. Turn off power to the heat pump and The Attendant
  2. Remove electrical access panel on the heat pump
  3. Route 22 gauge 2 conductor wire from The Attendant enclosure into the low voltage compartment of the heat pump.
  4. Connect wires to “Port B” of the control board in the heat pump
  1. Connect the other end of the wire to a Bus port on The Attendant

If this happens, try “17” as this is the manufacturer default.

  1. Wake up the unit by swiping across the keypad
  2. Press Menu
  3. Use arrows to navigate to System and press Enter
  4. Use arrows to navigate to Advanced and press Enter
  5. Use arrows to navigate to External Control and press Enter
  6. Use arrows to pick External Control Mode and press Enter
  7. Use arrows to select SMART and press Enter.
  8. Use arrows to set the Local Address. Select 00, and press enter when done. [When configuring this device using the Poolside mobile app, you will enter 1 as the Bus Identifier.]
  9. Confirm OK to clear existing setups.

The heat pump should restart when the procedure is complete. You should see the following screen:
